Lagann January 16th, 2012

lagann01

I’ve begun another small character project. This time it’s based on a character from a popular anime series called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. If you enjoy anime at all I highly encourage you to watch it.

I’ve decided to try modeling and rigging the mini mecha called Lagann. It’s going to be a challenge for me in a couple ways. First, I haven’t done too much hard surface modeling, and second, he needs to transform. So this is going to be my first transformation capable rig.

As you can see I already have a rough model done up here. The model itself is proving difficult to nail down, due to the ‘cartoon physics’ of his animation and transformations, so thinking ahead to the rig and the movement and intersections of all the pieces is taking a bit longer to get nailed down. I’ll start posting more regular updates for him in the blog section of this site as progress is made.

Pumpkin Head October 31st, 2010

pumpkinhead

Just a quick one-day model done completely in Zbrush 4. I decided to challenge myself for Halloween to take one day and see what I could do. I think it came out fairly well. I would have liked to have a bit more time to add some more detail and pose it into something more interesting, but the idea is done, and it was some fun practice.

Also, never let a pumpkin jump you from behind. Especially possessive types.

DND content added June 6th, 2010

Things are slowly wrapping up here at the Department of Defense internship and we are getting some of our content approved for public viewing. First up is the soldier model that I put half my life into for 6 months. I was in charge of him pretty near day one, from modeling, texturing, rigging the main soldier and nearly all of the pieces of gear for him.  Second is the Leopard 2A4 model I made for the game engine VBS.  It was kept on the lower poly end for the engine, but I added some high poly treads for demo purposes, as well as a complex rig for animation. More to come, including a brand new demo reel! Enjoy!

Soldier Model
Soldier model created for character animation. Was modeled, and rigged using 3DS Max, and textured using Photoshop. Note: I did not create the C7 Rifle seen in the video.
Leopard2A4
Tank model for VBS game engine. Created in 3DS Max. High poly treads added for demo purposes only.
Tin Can Hitman Update March 1st, 2010

Here’s a look at what I’ve been doing in my free time. Working on my OCD the Tin Can Hitman which I’ve mentioned before. Slowly picking at him in my free time after work, and I’m hoping *crossed fingers*, that when he’s done I’ll be able to get him printed out with the 3D printer at work.

Tin Can Hitman June 22nd, 2009

Another project of mine for the summer. I came up with this guy while I was listening to the song Tin Can Hitman by Robotronica. A fun little tune. Not quite sure what I’m going to do with him yet, but I’m thinking maybe a short one page comic as a bit of a test before I delve deeper into the comic world.

Haz Mat June 22nd, 2009

This is the first summer project I started working on. I’ve decided to try and do more full images, using 3d modeling, sculpting and photoshop compositing like I did with the Atlus image I did. It’s a good way to practice my modeling, but at the same time gives a more complete look, and actually tells a story rather than just some shots of a character model. Granted it’s also a lot more work. I don’t want to say it’s harder than an actual painting, but there are certainly a lot more steps involved.

I think I’m going to try a different approach for some of them though. There was an article on CG Society about an artist on there, and how he completed a certain piece of his. He had a technique that caught me eye, and certainly seems like it would be a big time saver.

So yeah, this idea was inspired by an anime I watched recently, and so far the character design is pretty much done. I’m going to change a few things on it, like the gloves. I find the large gloves make it a little too stylized. Since the haz mat suit makes proportions already look out of wack, I think giving it smaller gloves will bring it back to reality a bit more. The image itself is going to be this guy inspecting a strange plant growing in the middle of a ruined skyscraper, and through the wall you will see the rest of the broken city. So a bit of a post apocalyptic shtick that we’ve all seen before, but hey, it’s new to me!
